WORLD OZONE DAY

World Ozone day is celebrated on September 16th to spread awareness about the loss of the Ozone Layer. The Ozone Layer is a thin layer in the Earth’s atmosphere that absorbs most of the Sun’s UV (ultraviolet) rays. The ozone layer is important because it acts as a shield for Earth by blocking the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation which can break into the organism's protective layers like skin harming DNA molecules in plants and animals.

World Ozone Day was founded in 1931 by French physicists Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson. On this day people from all over the world come and join the Montreal protocol to join the talks and seminars. World Ozone Day is celebrated on September 16th because September 16 was declared as the International Day for preservation of the Ozone Layer. The Montreal Protocol on Substances that can harm the Ozone Layer is an international agreement. It concentrates on the substances that harm the Ozone Layer.
